US state privacy law — California’s CCPA/CPRA and its counterparts elsewhere — gives you a right to opt out of the ‘sale’ or ‘sharing’ of your personal information for advertising. What follows is how that operates on stainlane.com.
What Follows
Opting out affects personalisation only. Ads may still be shown, selected without your data. We do not restrict, downgrade, or charge differently for the site on account of an opt-out — that would be unlawful.
The Practice in Question
To be precise about what is and is not happening: Stainlane does not sell personal information for monetary consideration. However, where advertising is displayed on stainlane.com, advertising identifiers may be shared with ad partners, and state law may classify that as a ‘sale’ or as ‘sharing’. We therefore make the opt-out available rather than rely on a narrow reading. The opt-out covers all visitors to stainlane.com, including readers interested in Stainlane who simply read an article and leave.
How to Opt Out
To exercise the right: enable Global Privacy Control in your browser (honoured automatically, no message needed); or refuse advertising cookies via the consent banner where shown; or send an email to hello@stainlane.com with the subject ‘Do Not Sell or Share’. We will not ask you to create an account to do this.
Other state-law rights are described in the State Privacy Notice.
